Jane Osborne Bio

 

1. Where did you go to college and why did you choose this school?

Western Oregon State College—I chose this school because of its strong tradition and quality in teacher education.

 

2. Where have you taught? What grade level(s)?

I taught 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades in Sweet Home at Hawthorne School from 1989 to 1998.  I moved back home to Hood River in 1998 and have taught 2nd and 3rd grade at Mid Valley Elementary School in Odell, Oregon, 1998 to the present.

 

3. What is your current professional focus (job)?

I teach 3rd grade in the same elementary school that I attended as a student!

 

4. How and why did you get involved with OCTM?

I first got involved in OCTM at a Northwest Math Conference in 1989 by becoming a member of OCTM.  Cathy Brown, Ron Nicholson, Trudy Mitchell, as well as many other math heroes have encouraged me to take leadership roles in math education.

 

5. What kind of math leadership roles have you taken in the Oregon Math Community?

Currently, I am the Area 12 OCTM Representative.  I serve on the Oregon Department of Education Math Content Panel and Assessment Panel.  I have presented OCTM workshops and other math and science classes for teachers.

 

6. What are you passionate about (personal or professional)?

I am a life-long learner.  I love finding new ways to help ALL students become successful.
