Secretary: Jennifer Cox
1. Where did you go to college and why did you
choose this school?
I attended Eastern Washington University for my
undergraduate work. I choose EWU because it was a smaller university,
near Spokane and has a great Education program. I got my masters degree
from Grand Canyon University. GCU worked for me because I could do all my
classes on-line.
2. Where have you taught? What grade level(s)?
I have spent my entire career in Boardman, OR. I began teaching 4th grade,
and now I am teaching 6th grade.
3. What is your current professional focus (job)?
I teach 6th grade in a self-contained
classroom. I am also the DART – District Assessment Resource Team,
member.
4. How and why did you get involved with OCTM?
I attended a conference put on by Molly Smith early
in my career. She invited me to Oregon Math Leaders. After several
years I became the OCTM Area 11 rep. During my first year as rep I
volunteered to fulfill Patty SandozŐs term as secretary when she was elected to
President. I was recently reelected to the secretary position.
5. What kind of math leadership roles have you
taken in the Oregon Math Community?
I am actively involved in OCTM and OML. I
mentor new teachers in our building. I have written test items for Oregon
State tests and helped set the new cut scores. I have presented at the
Northwest Math Conference in Portland 2005 and am planning on presenting in
Bellevue at the NWMC in 2007. I was on the Inquiry Outside the Cube
planning committee.
6. What are you passionate about (personal or
professional)?
I believe that learning should never end and a
teacher's job is to make learning fun so that students will continue
to want to learn. I am also passionate about spending time with my
family and rooting for the Echo Cougars.
7. What one word do you
think best describes you?
Cheerful
