Area 7 Representative:   Karen Ashcraft

 

1. Where did you go to college and why did you choose this school?

Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado for two years;  Living in southwest Colorado;  University of Oregon for three years—closest place to Coos Bay to finish Education degree

 

2. Where have you taught? What grade level(s)?

Self-contained 4th, 5th, 6th grades for six years;  Problem Solving Program K-6 for ten years

 

3. What is your current professional focus (job)?

Eight years math specialist for Madison K-5 and two years math specialist for Millicoma 5-6 with an emphasis on problem solving program whole class instruction

 

4. How and why did you get involved with OCTM?

As a student teacher I attended the Northwest Math Conference.  Chuck Inman came to Madison for presentation and invited me to Oregon Math Leaders.

 

5. What kind of math leadership roles have you taken in the Oregon Math Community?

Yearly family math nights at schools in Coos Bay; presentations on problem solving for South Coast ESD.

 

6. What are you passionate about (personal or professional)?

Gardening; circles and ¹

 

7. What one word do you think best describes you?
