Treasurer:   Ross Eells

 

1. Where did you go to college and why did you choose this school?

University of Iowa and graduated in 1974 with a degree in Anthropology.  I went to Iowa because I was tired of living in Ottumwa, Iowa, many friends went there and they offered a degree in Anthropology which is what I needed in order to be an archaeologist.

 

Western Washington University and obtained an elementary teaching certificate in 1981.  I attended WWU because it wasnÕt a huge school; the setting is gorgeous and was close to where I was living at the time.

 

Portland State University and received a Masters in Elementary Ed.  I attended PSU because it offered a masters program and I was teaching in Umatilla at the time. 

 

2. Where have you taught? What grade level(s)?

McNary Heights Elementary, Umatilla  4th/5th

Silver Firs Elementary, Everett 5th

McMinnville School District 4th/5th

 

3. What is your current professional focus (job)?

Currently ½ time math specialist, 3rd grade half time

 

4. How and why did you get involved with OCTM?

I became involved in OCTM when my administrator invited me to Math Leaders.  After many years attending I was asked by Giny Christensen to run for Treasurer and she said it would be an easy job.  I have not listened to anything she says since.

 

5. What kind of math leadership roles have you taken in the Oregon Math Community?

Math Content Panel, Scoring Director State Problem Solving, Workshop Leader, Speaker Northwest Math Conferences, Treasurer OCTM, NCTM Affiliate Conference, Awarded PAEMST

 

6. What are you passionate about (personal or professional)?

Passionate about my sons and other family members, music, home improvement and being an outstanding math educator

 

7. What one word do you think best describes you?

Patient
