I just discovered Absurd Math!  It has a Site of the Day recognition from Learning Network. These are math adventures on a strange world that will capture the imagination of students. It looks like a very engaging set of problems for students to investigate. The first two episodes involve pollution and saving.

 

Absurd Math:  This site presents Pre-Algebra from another dimension.  Absurd Math is an interactive mathematical problem solving game series. The player proceeds on missions in a strange world where the ultimate power consists of mathematical skill and knowledge. Many of the pages have hidden clues and areas. Teachers and parents may email for answer keys.

Pete’s Power Point Station:  Free Power Point presentations ready for you to use in your classroom!  They include many topics in mathematics but are also available for other subjects.  Colorful and easy to use.

IMMEX:  New problem solving sets for middle and high school science and math students are being prepared and posted during this 3-year project.  The September problem asked students to find the cost of pizza when given a variety of facts to work with.  This project is supported by a National Science Foundation grant.

Math Playground:  Lot’s of fun playing with math skills and logic puzzles, this site is designed for elementary and middle school students.  The selection includes math games, word problems, logic puzzles and math videos.  The math games are easy to use, featuring characters that can move around with the use of arrow keys.

Maths Dictionary for Kids 2007:  This dictionary contains visual portrayals of math words.  Students select a word from the left list and the definition appears in a box to the right.  Colorful and eye-catching., students will enjoy the interactive feature of this dictionary.

Math Mastery:  This website contains a wide variety of mathematics challenges for students, parents and teachers.  There are Family Math Activities covering topics for grades 3-5 and grades 6-8. Check Your Skills, Cyberchallenge contains interactive practice sets for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.  There is a Daily Brains set of problems with problem solving hints and solutions available.

Kids Numbers:  This is a free math resource designed by teachers, specifically for students and children of all ages. Here students can practice all aspects of math, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.  There are also explorations in algebra, geometry and other topics of interest.  Included is a link to Math Foundations, a free 12 week program for young children that will help them build the foundation needed to do well in Kindergarten. Many links to math games are also presented here.

Oswego Interactive Games:  You can create your own math skills practice games on this website.  Complete directions are included!  You will also find interactive practice games created by other teachers covering a wide variety of math skills.  The interactive clock for classroom demonstrations is especially helpful.  This website is from Oswego City Schools. Math maven Mysteries:  Scholastic features a selection of mysteries for students to solve.  This site is colorful and engaging.  It is organized by topic (logical reasoning, fractions and ratios, whole number and operations, money and decimals, etc.  These activities are also rated by difficulty level.

Gamequarium:  This site features links to interactive math games.  They are organized by topic, such as addition, algebra, data interpretation, etc.  The problem solving link includes games about hurricanes, wild fires, floods, etc.
