The Mildred Bennett Elementary Math Education Award

The Mildred Bennett Award is given to an elementary or middle school teacher. This year the award was given to Jan Gillespie, a retired elementary math teacher from Portland, Oregon and in her retired life, founder of The Math Place in Portland to provide K-5 tutoring and parent-child activities.

Lynn Bonser and Winnie Miller

 

The Oscar Schaaf Secondary Mathematics Education Award

The award is given to a middle, high or college teacher and this year there are two winners: iLynn Bonser, who just retired this fall from her most current job as a Math Specialist and Math Coach in Clatsop and Columbia counties and Wiinnie Miller, a retired high school math teacher from Lake Ridge High School in Lake Oswego, who continues to work beyond retirement as an instructor for Portland State University and the PDC Chair for OCTM..

The Oregon Hall of Fame Award

OCTM also gives a third award, the Hall of Fame Award, when appropriate. This year, there was no Hall of Fame Winner.

Oregon Math Education Awards

Each year the OCTM Executive Board gives two annual awards to recognize and honor teachers and leaders. The Recipients exemplify the spirit and dedication of two of Oregon's outstanding mathematics teachers: Mildred Bennett and Oscar Schaaf.
