56th Annual Northwest Mathematics Conference
The Northwest Mathematics Conference is one of the finest regional education conferences in North America. Each fall, the conference is sponsored by the state or provincial math teachers' council of Oregon, Washington, or British Columbia.
In 2017, the conference will be held in Portland on October 12-14. Keynote speakers are Dan Meyer, presenter of TED Talk “Math Class Needs a Makeover” and Chief Academic Officer of Desmos, and Fawn Nguyen, math teacher, presenter, curriculum writer, and author of several online curricular resources, including visualpatterns.org and mathtalks.net. Other speakers include Chris Shore of the Math Projects Journal, Graham Fletcher, Annie Fetter of the Math Forum, and Robert Kaplinsky.
Be sure to register early for best rates! Pre-registration for OCTM or other math association members is only $185 ($210 for non-members).

The National Council of Teachers of Mathematics 2017 Annual Meeting will be in San Antonio, Texas on April 5-8, 2017. NCTM will also hold regional conferences in Orlando on October 18-20, 2017 and in Chicago on November 29-December 1, 2017, as well as a new Innov8 Conference in Las Vegas on November 15-17, 2017. NCTM is soliciting speaker proposals for the Innov8 conference (deadline: March 17).
Oregon Math Leaders
Every year in early August, 100-200 teachers gather in Salem for the Oregon Math Leaders (OML) conference in order to improve math education in their classrooms, their schools, their districts, and across the state. In 2017, OML will be held August 4-5 with a theme of Connecting With Math Education. Look for information here and in The Oregon Math Teacher (TOMT) magazine about how to come gather and network with other educators and continue to learn how to effectively teach mathematics for deeper conceptual understanding.
Before OML, on August 3, an Authors' Assistance event will be held in Salem for writers for OCTM's award-winning journal, The Oregon Math Teacher (TOMT). With editor approval, participants who author several articles for TOMT will have OML registration fees waived. Participants must submit ideas for three articles by June 15 and rough drafts by July 15, and will modify and complete articles at Authors' Assistance. Details will be available in the spring.
OCTM members may also want to consider applying for the Don Fineran Scholarship or the Sunrise Scholarship (for teachers with 1-5 years experience) by April 15 for financial help attending the conference.
OML is at Willamette University:
