Oregon Math Leaders
Dates: August 3 5, 2008
The Oregon Math leaders Conference will be held August 3 5, 2008, at Linfield College in McMinnville, Oregon. This summer is all about Diving Deep Into Mathematics. With an emphasis on Professional Learning Communities, we set the stage for us to dive deep into using student data for instructional planning, tapping into each others’ strengths, and building a collaborative community that lends itself to discussions about best practices. With the adoption of the Oregon K-8 Core Standards for Mathematics and the continued work with the Oregon 9-12 Core Standards for Mathematics, we look forward to hearing from our friends at the Oregon Department of Education about how the narrowed focus of our standards allows our students develop a deeper understanding of mathematics. We will also have the opportunity to be a part of the “Great Debate” in mathematics-constructivist vs. traditional-through our Math Research Forum.
Consider yourself to be a Math Leader if:
Math Leaders are nominated by their colleagues and invited by OCTM area representatives, as space permits, based on their interest and participation in mathematics education in their community, school district, or grade level. Nominate someone who reaches out and helps other teachers to be better math teachers. Feel free to nominate yourself. Please print out the nomination form and send it in or contact your area representative to request an invitation.
