Is the Oregon Math Leaders conference for you? If you are interested in improving your math teaching skills, if you work with other teachers in your building, district, region, or around the state to improve math education for all, or if you like to share curriculum materials with your colleagues, then yes, OML is for you! What could be better than attending “math camp” where you not only get to take in ideas and strategies for teaching mathematics, but you also get to share your own knowledge and love of teaching? If you’ve been in the classroom at all, you have wisdom to share about building and developing engaging teaching strategies, uncovering misconceptions in learning or in teaching math, and more.
At OML, you will learn about engaging and effective teaching practices, classroom activities, and resources for math education, and you will meet teachers from across the state. Oregon Department of Education (ODE) assessment specialist Bryan Toller and math curriculum specialist Mark Freed will address state and national trends, provide updates on opportunities statewide to become involved at a local level, and respond to your questions and comments. The Oregon Department of Education has always valued teachers’ knowledge and their important role in developing our students’ understanding of important mathematical concepts. OML’s founding father and retired ODE math specialist, Don Fineran, put it this way, “Together we have strength, sharing, and service.”

Nancy Anderson Memorial Workshop: This year's Nancy Anderson Memorial Workshop, "Fractions Using Deci-Blocks," is for K-5 teachers. Manipulatives will be provided to a limited number of classroom teachers. Participation will be capped, so K-5 teachers should register for OML early!
Authors' Assistance Event (formerly Writers' Retreat): Before OML, on August 3, the second annual Authors' Assistance event will be held in Salem for writers for OCTM's award-winning journal, The Oregon Math Teacher (TOMT). With editor approval, participants who author several articles for TOMT will have OML registration fees waived. The event will include a meal on Sunday and editing help from experienced math writing coaches and Authors' Assistance facilitators. Participants must submit ideas for three articles by June 15 and rough drafts by July 15, and will modify and complete their articles at Authors' Assistance. Contact Marie Cramer with questions.
