Hello fellow mathematics educators!
You are invited to a gathering of high school mathematics teachers, mathematics education leaders, higher-education mathematics/mathematics education faculty (university and community colleges), and state policy leaders. The aim of this gathering is to foster a community where we coordinate information, share ideas, ask questions, and start building a network of people and resources to inform and improve Oregon’s mathematics education system.
This past year has been unprecedented in terms of our world and our profession. Educators across Oregon’s mathematics education system (K-12, 2-year and 4-year institutions) have worked diligently to support Oregon students! At the same time the systems have been in flux by reconsidering K-12 math standards, math pathways to graduation, and innovations in 2-year and 4-year college mathematics.
A major implication of these changes is a shift from a traditional “Algebra – Geometry – Algebra II” (AGA) pathway to pathways meeting the needs of our graduates as they venture into careers or higher education. A major concern for those involved in working on the standards and math pathways has been making sure ALL stakeholders across the mathematics education system are engaged in discussion and have access to information on these ideas. Our aim is to create a forum to build understanding and listen to one another.
The agenda for the meeting will be set based on registration responses; however, the following are topics we anticipate will be discussed.
Cost for the Math Summit: FREE! (plus, after the summit, all attendees will receive a book)
Time: July 29th, 9am - 12:30pm PST
Optional Afternoon Open Forum aligned to specific interests from 1:30 - 3pm PST
Registration link for the Oregon Math Summit: Registration Form (this link is not email specific and can be passed along to others).
Who should attend: High School Math Teachers, Mathematics Leaders, Post-Secondary (2 & 4 yr.) Mathematics/Mathematics Education Faculty, State Leaders who work across the mathematics education systems

- How will high schools meet the needs of students going directly to higher ed (in or out of state)?
- How are 2-year and 4-year math courses changing to support national initiatives?
- How can we work toward more equitable outcomes for each and every student?
- What about faculty who teach math in small districts?
- How can we support one another within a district, across districts/state, and across HS and college?
- What about co-requisite courses?
- What about college entrance requirements?
- Are colleges shifting towards more data science in courses or degrees?
